I'm staying in my brother's house and there has been so many instances where something weird happened that I'm starting to think there's indeed a presence in this house.

They all happen in the second floor and the stairs to the third floor but never in the third floor or the first one, even tho the first floor is darker and scarier. I've slept there many times and nothing ever happens.

Now the second floor is another story... The balcony's door opening by itself, hearing steps when there's no one in the house, extremely loud noises of something falling to the floor, noises of the chairs in the dining room being moved, and knocking noises on the second floor's bedroom.

I've slept in that bedroom with a friend, all night long knocking noises that are too ambiguous to know where they specifically come from, sometimes the knocking is faster and then it slows down. The scariest thing is that my friend asked it to stop and it indeed stopped for a few seconds before it starting again... I swear I almost peed myself.

Every time these sorts of things are studied they turn out to be just physics. Wind humming just right over pipe exhausts causing hums. Changes in temperature from day to night causing things to shift and settle will cause pipe rattle which can sound like steps through the walls and floor. If things settle just right a door would swing open too.

Every time they're studied they've not once yet turned out to be paranormal.

The middle floor of the house is also the most insulated so all of those materials are the last to cool down in the night.

I've lived in an old house all my life, I'm used to wood shifting noises. The ones happening in this one tho are not it, the knocking happened in a very specific way, just when we said "let's go to sleep" after a long night chat at 2am. And just when we're going to sleep the knocking started, when my friend jokingly talked at it asking it to stop it actually stopped for a few seconds... And then it started even stronger. And tonight it was a very strong noise of something falling or being thrown, it wasn't even the sound of wood, it was the sound of something falling against the concrete floor. We checked for anything and nothing had fallen.

The noises happening could be any number of things.

One is it's been shown that we're very good at incorporating input without even realizing it. A precursor to the noise may have started (such as a rumble low enough you didn't audible register it but felt it, which has been shown to be the cause of many ghost noises), your friend could have heard this and taken him out of the mind of just hanging out subconsciously.

That or just the law of very big numbers which basically says there's so many people doing so many things that everyone is bound to experience crazy coincidences like that eventually.
