Because Americans need to be able to buy guns from Wal Mart next to the toy section so they can protect their families from the fascistic dictators like Afghanistan and Venezuela who will clearly invade America any minute now so they need that 9mm to protect them from the tanks and bombers from all those poor countries who don't have freedom.
Or so I've been told.
