It's not really good science fiction, like, say, The Expanse. It's kind of like retro tech in a futuristic setting, but all the fun future stuff are kept from the people, and the silo is intentionally kept low tech. Like for example elevators are not allowed.
It's kind of like Fallout if they never left the Vaults. Fallout 3 had a similar feel with the Overseer saying no one can enter and no one can leave. Presumably, it's for the same reason.
