Your laptop still provides standard USB ports on both sides?
Apart from the cable itself, how old is this meme??
I recently bought a ThinkPad (not current gen but bought new from Lenovo) a couple of weeks ago. Type A ports on both sides (and some USB-C ports).

Our company laptops are HP ones.
My previous one (already some years old, had to switch due to Win11 incompatibility) already had only a single type A on the left side.
The new one has only two overall, both on the right side.
At least it also has a single type C on the left side, but all my stuff is type A, and apart from that: only three ports overall is somewhat embarrassing, considering it is a physically huge top-of-the line development laptop...
After working various jobs, I'm doing personal projects to get into entertainment entirely independently (challenging as heck). I'm lucky in my position to choose my own laptop, I've heard the woes of company laptops from people over the years however.
I chose mine without an OS. It's advertised as having all sorts of AI things, and made for Windows 11, however I didn't like Windows 11 since the beta (I just do not find the changes to be made for efficiency, however it may be down to what I'm used to).
I installed Windows 10 IoT LTSC, security updates until 2032 and none of that AI nonsense. I remapped the CoPilot key to open Notepad.
And here I got all hyped up for the distro reveal reading that ๐
Haha I respect folks into Linux, but for my use case scenario I'm better off with what I'm used to. I'm doing pretty simple things with it, mostly research and script-writing and the occasional light video editing.
At some point I want to set up a dedicated machine at home for a media server I can remote into (Jellyfin etc.), that will be running Linux. Will be something for the near future though.

Nope.
Connector count in general and USB in particular have unfortunately been declining for the last 10-15 years, current HP laptop being the lowpoint with only two USB type A on the right and a single USB-C on the left...
And we are talking development machines here, I work with embedded systems and have to connect stuff, which is often still legacy stuff.
Understandably I am constantly pissed about the development.
So went wireless as far as possible: Bluetooth headset and keyboard, only the mouse still needs a USB dongle (at least the connection itself being wireless makes the side it connects to doesn't matter...)
I can have USB in any orientation I want, thanks to framework
For that I have an ever growing collection of USB-C adapters. A to C, C to A, C to Micro, C to Mini, C to B, all kinds of angles, etc. All the adapters take less space than one extra cable and I was able to get rid of all non-C cables.
I am down to just a couple of devices that don't have USB-C and it's wonderful. I also modded some devices with USB-C charging ports using USB-C PD trigger boards so I won't need barrel plugs as much anymore.
I have yet to seen a peripheral that uses usb c, for me I prefer usb A on my devices so that I can actually use my peripherals with it without an adaptor because again, I do not have peripherals that use usb c
My work laptop is even older, it still features an RJ45-Ethernet port. As a network admin, it's really useful.
To my surprise, the brand new HP company laptop I got at least still has a RJ45 port, so not completely unhappy! :-)
