The best I can do is say "model it with them". What that looks like for me is having open dialogue with them about how they feel about attention and keeping that same dialogue open in the event that they can't process that and respond in the moment. Being able to do that allows them to think about my behavior and their own, so that we can both address how we feel about the attention we give each other and receive.
