Enough Musk Spam
For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.
No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.
Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.
Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.
Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.

Absolutely, and the broad brush describes the trend and majority. When the rest aren't fighting against it, they have made themselves irrelevant.
Americans are not FIGHTING for decency or even democracy, they are lollygagging ignoring the problems, and pretending the next election will save them, while their society is devolving and people are suffering.
The "I got mine" mentality and lack of interest in politics in USA is insane, and USA will collapse because of it, as insanity has taken over and people are still not reacting in significant masses.
USA has a lot of brilliant amazing people, but those are not the ones the majority are listening to, they have been captured by a rabid move towards totalitarianism and intolerance and adoration for the insanity among the worst of the rich and powerful.
It's very hard to describe how deep the problems in American society go, but these problems are not superficial or easy to fix, they are fundamental and work like a cancer that is making American society sick, and it is overcoming the part of the people who are not.
What I'm seeing firsthand is that there are a huge number of people (a majority, I would estimate) doing "What the actual fuck is going on?" but they are individually powerless to stop it. The right in the US has been well-organized for decades; the left here has never been.
The majority are not fascists, they're just unorganized against organized fascism.
Voting says otherwise when they voted this shit in all the way to majorities in the Senate, house and presidency.
They may not be fascists, but they condone all the symptoms of fascism in their voting.
Voting, especially federal, in the US is far from fair, and cannot be used as a metric to measure the actual desires of the majority.
The Senate is tipped hard in favor of rural states, where populations are more fascist. House districts are gerrymandered to hell because, again, rural state legislatures tend to favor the fascists for the same rural reasons. Voter disenfranchisement (applied in a variety of ways) is high as a result of the extensive fascist organization; they know when fewer people vote, fascists are more likely to win.
Combine that with low levels of media literacy and plenty of propaganda (again, for decades), and you get the election outcomes we see.
Doesn't change the fact that Psychopathy was elected over boring to gran Republicans majority in the the Senate and the house and they won the presidency.
that's not a mistake because of a bad voting system, that is systematic endorsement of psychopathic behavior by the American population.
You can make a thousand excuses, but they don't change that one simple fact.
The first past the post system kinda focuses in on radical ends of things. It makes moderate positions not make sense to campaign or even vote for.
True, which is why Americans should have solved their democratic deficit decades ago, instead of first considering after they are at risk of losing it altogether.
The effect is well known, and the American founding fathers chose that idiotic system ON PURPOSE!!! Because they wanted a strong government with the ability to take action.
They can be excused for not knowing better, as democracy wasn't as well understood back then. But USA has had 250 years to modify it towards a fairer more representative democracy.
I freaking learned about it in public school in Denmark in the 70's!!! It's been common knowledge for probably a century.
You may not have learned that the American Revolution was fought between the British and thirteen separate colonies that each considered themselves to be sovereign. The original organizing document was the Articles of Confederation, which created a very weak federal "government" that was responsible for just a few things, but without the authority to raise funds from the Several States to actually do any of those things.
The US Constitution didn't take effect until March 1789, and it contains the Electoral College and the Senate specifically so that the States (wanting to maintain some semblance of sovereignty) would ratify it.
2026-1789=237 years.
Close enough. And yes the idea of states maintaining some autonomy is not the problem. EU has the same and even more protection of the rights of member states, completely without the democratic shortcomings of USA.
I wasn't bickering over the number of years. You may just not be aware that state sovereignty in the US was a really big deal until at least the 1870s, and continued to be a pretty big deal for some time after. The US is 50 countries in a trench coat.
