This generation of students, man 🙄

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.
Just had a discussion with a friend who teaches comp sci at the uni I used to go to. He asked the new first semesters which of them were using AI. The ratio was literally one hundred fucking percent.
We're just doomed.
Sadly this is pretty accurate, i am studying Software Engineering in uni and everyone is using LLMs except me, and i really wish i wasn't alone because I can't even trust anyone to help me with homework, if someone uses an LLM i can just forget about getting an explanation for why a specific step in a mathematical proof is used, so instead It's almost like I'm studying alone.
I really hate this, now my degree will be equated to those of others who just used LLMs to do their homework, and can't explain much shit themselves.
It would probably be better to differentiate. In my opinion there are different levels of LLM usage, and some, of them you have to actually go out of your way to deactivate. (For example, the jetbrains line completions)
No. Don't differentiate. There's literally no good reason to use that shit if you're supposed to learn about what you're doing. It'll just result in you learning less. Just don't use jetbrains. We're currently removing them from our work environment for that reason.
Ah. I guess in some cases then AI IS being used by every student.
