Are you ready for the day the internet splits?

Privacy has become a very important issue in modern society, with companies and governments constantly abusing their power, more and more people are waking up to the importance of digital privacy.
In this community everyone is welcome to post links and discuss topics related to privacy.
much thanks to @gary_host_laptop for the logo design :)
It's my understanding that Tor is primarily a way to access the clearnet while darkweb access was added as an afterthought. I don't see Tor solving the problem of I.D. verification on social media, for example.
I2p was designed as a completely separate network. Haven't used it myself but this seems the way to go for most day to day activity.
Torrent the porn. I've seen plenty on offer at TPB.
Have your own domain from https://njal.la/ bought with Monero and create a single user instance for Lemmy or Mastodon should allow you to remain anonymous and avoid being arrested.
Will Tor and I2P be approved by Apple, Google, Microsoft, etc? There will always be FOSS and there will always be a way to install alternative OSs on computers.
I've heard I2P is fairly quick, torrenting is encouraged.
Been doing so for years. You might have a hard time finding someone in the privacy community that doesn't do this.
Messaging via Signal is my go to. Rarely do I even have my voip app active.
It does by disguising the location you're accessing the website from, which may or may not have such laws.
A VPN does that as well without the issue of being blocked very often.
A VPN doesn't build a chain of nodes and doesn't rotate them.
The VPN provider knows your real IP. Tor exit node doesn't.
Doesn't matter how anonymous one is if the website blocks Tor traffic.
Nymvpn runs traffic through 2 or 5 nodes, depending on user setting. These nodes are not owned by Nym.
True, that usually costs money though, while Tor is free.
Sure Tor is free. Compared to what I pay for electricity and ISP, a vpn is very low cost.
