I am quite a beginner, and this is my first 3D crochet project.
I fell in love with Marrakesh-style lampshades but couldn't find a pattern, so I tried to figure out one based on the general instructions from this page (project 5). The shade is worked entirely in single crochet using a 50/50 cotton/polyester macramé yarn. It has three metal rings crocheted directly into the fabric for structure.
I kept things simple: whenever I increased or decreased, I always did it every 12 stitches. To change the angle, I alternated increase/decrease rounds with plain rounds, but I feel the profile could be smoother. The next version will be made with 100% cotton yarn.
I'd love some advice on shaping. Is there a better way to decide where and how often to increase or decrease to get a smoother shape? Right now I mostly guessed and experimented.

OH! Thank you so much! I did not found this artist before. I checked designs and bought this one : https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/xl-light-sculpture-marrakech - it has wonderful shape and different stiches. I will probably adjust the pattern as this is huge. Also...mix of stitches might be easier to shape nicely :) This design made me happy as it is made with exact yarn I ordered for next lamps. I am so exited now!

They do some pretty big sizes, i ordered a few lamps worth. If the size you want is nit there just do a search for ring.
My tension is medium and i still think it is looser than was required by the pattern, i should have used the smaller hook suggestion from the pattern.
I have hoops in 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 - I will probably buy 55 later only for my living room as 40 is big enough for other rooms (I have whole flat to decorate). I think I will just experiment on my ugliest color to check how increasing with double crochet works. Maybe I even have some cheap bracelet to use as the smallest hoop.
Also thx for the frame link. I am not in UK, but now i do get what I need and managed to find almost same product in Poland - I definitely need the rings with place for a bulb fixture.
The one i made starts at 3cm (keyring size) and then tapers right in at the bottom. So if i was making one in hindsight i would have put a lamp in prior to closing up. I see yours has the wider base so that helps.
I will probably skip bottom section all together as want it do be main light. In my prototype I have just well...yarn very tightly woven on the cord 😆
