This is probably just mock reviews for development instead of lorem ipsum text. Name a plattform where reviews are not fake or atleast the bad ones are occisionally removed. I don't know any apart from porn sites.

That's a fun question…

Steam almost makes it, but they added that "off topic reviews" filter. People were leaving negative reviews because of the company rather than the content, which I think is actually important to know about personally, but Steam decided to hide it. Stuff like, Blizzard's sexual harassment boycotts. You can still see these reviews but it takes a few extra clicks.

Lemmy book review communities etc count, but it's a 3rd party service, I believe you're talking about 1st party reviews.

As you said, porn sites keep negative reviews, and most are real. Apart from the super obvious "click here for women in your area" spam comments of course.

Also Nexus Mods. People often leave negative complaints as comments for the mod author to increase Skyrim boobies size by another 20%. By extension, Steam workshop also qualifies.

In the example you gave of Steam, I'd agree the filter should not be there. But unfortunately that blade cuts both ways, also filtering out review bombers that did it because a game includes a trans character or whatever, which is actually useful.

Yep, there's a fine line between moderation and censorship, and it often depends on the affected's perspective

At least you can turn of the filter.

if they’d have called it “related reviews” it might have gone down okay

and gone down well if reviews about the publisher/developer/etc were shared between games automatically… even if they were separated
