Sabine Hossenfelder, after she went full anti-science, like "and you can trust me because i am a scientist, but not like those other scientists."

I think i stopped watching when she read a fake email to the camera.

[–] dreamy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 38 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Her defending Eric Weinstein, the crackpot who pretty much everybody knows is a Peter Thiel-funded dickhead with a fake theory of everything, was especially crazy.

I also remember her defending Trump's threats of taking away funding from a certain university, because the university was "anti-semitic" for allowing anti-Zionist protests, but can't find the video now.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

i actually never heard of that guy. i heard of another crackpot like frank greene whos peddling his own theory.

[–] HuudaHarkiten@piefed.social 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Her defending Eric Weinstein

That made me like 99% sure shes bought and paid for by Thiel or some such person. Seeing a actual receipt of a payment from Thiel to her would make me 100% sure.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

i wouldnt be surprised, people like thiel, musk, bezos tries to be "pseudointellectuals" themselves, but because thier names are so well known, they have to use people with PHDs washouts.

I unsubbed her when she started going anti-feminist and pro-merz

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Her anti trans stuff was also a good warning sign.

[–] acchariya@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This is when I stopped watching. What does an astrophysicist know about gender? Why did she feel the need to insert it into an astrophysics video? Scientists: stay in your lane and recognize you might not be the authority you think you are on every subject. Also, irrelevant to the content at hand.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There’s a huge phenomenon of people who are experts in random fields pretending that it gives the competence to speak about trans issues.

Eg, Helen Joyce is a mathematician but has made her entire career into being aggrieved about trans people.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

NdGT will talk about ANY subject as though he was an expert. I'm kind of shocked he hasn't said anything stupid about trans people yet, but he sure has said a lot of stupid stuff.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

i suspect alot of these are paid to be right wing mouthpieces by someone funding them. they need new ones currently(the likes of tim poole, shapiro isnt enough), and "intellectuals" aka, pseudointellectuals with degrees have more validity to would be potential "far right supporters" in the audience,, and drawing men into the manosphere.

[–] andros_rex@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I think the Heritage Foundation and a few other groups are deliberately recruiting and paying people for anti trans propaganda. Consider how Riley Gaines has made an entire career out of tying with someone for fifth place at a swim competition.

There’s a phenomenon of fake detransitioners as well. Maia Poet and Chloe Cole.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fulnecky is a new one made a fake paper, she knows that the trans TA would get in trouble. Faux news is lining upnew bimbos, incase ingraham gets the axe from being an anchor.

jordan peterson was very effective in getting people into the manosphere with pseudo-intellectual bs. im guessing they need more for each STEM background. and he was mostly paid by putin, his ties to russia is pretty obvious.

transphobia, lgbtq+ phobia seems to be the thing "uniting hate amonst even POCs (that are bigoted)too, transphobia issue seems to be unresolved in POC groups, like asians, blacks, hispanics, because its almost never discussed..

After knowing it, I agree with the university of Munich kicking her out like trash.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 4 points 4 days ago

im guessing there was truth about some of the commenters saying she was the one that was "hard to work with" after seeing the first 30seconds of the video(about giving up as a physicist", at first i thought it was anti-feminist comment, but it make sense now.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

thats whats happening to her, i guess she far right herself. her video first caught notice, after her "why i left academia, or gave up being a physicist" im guessing she wasnt telling the whole truth to that video, she probably was so difficult to work with in academia, or a job that nobody wants to hire her, or her political leanings were annoying asf, at first she said something about being a woman and being ignored in the field dominated by men. im guessing people in the comments were right: she was the troublemaker.

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Her mission is to advance an anti-intellectual agenda to further divide people and keep us stupid, and she's lied many many times in pursuit of that goal.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 2 days ago

im guessing that video of her "Claiming she left academia, because it was caused by issues for men. was her telling a half-truth.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The problem with Youtubers is that they need to understand we don't watch the vids to get a personal relationship with them.

[–] jerkface@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

You're not speaking for a large audience who are indeed engaging parasocially.

[–] abbadon420@sh.itjust.works 15 points 5 days ago

I didn't kniw her, but heard her name critisized in an Angela Collier video once. I get sad at the state of social media sometimes

[–] datavoid@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago

I tried to get into her like 5 years ago, absolutely couldn't do it. Her whole personality feels off to me.

[–] olafurp@lemmy.world 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I liked her covering science, but her takes on politics were either shallow or just wrong.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 4 days ago

What hit me there was another YouTuber complaining about her. she bitched about that, and I'm like ohh they're full of shit. Then I saw another, and a professor, and stopped to listen, they plead their cases. I started digging into it. She's on the edge of quackery in a lot of her listen to this person and not that person stuff. Quite a bit of her science leaks into areas she doesn't have a lot of expertise in, and rightful experts unceremoniously dunk on her for hot takes. When I saw it was multiple people and not just influencers looking for steak... I ended up cutting her off.

[–] Zos_Kia@jlai.lu 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

At some point I noticed that she always sounds like she's talking with clenched teeth, as if she was on speed. Kinda ruined it for me, also her format is kinda lame.

Didn't know about those other things so... Yikes...

[–] zqps@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago

She also misrepresents and outright lies basically every time she talks about "big academia", but yes that too I guess.
