Usually I am sympathetic towards people losing their jobs. However, that goes out the window when their government is hostile and I am watching family struggle due to the trade war.

Not in the US. Attitude is irrelevant. You either pull the democratic party left by participating in primaries or you help elect Republicans. There are literally no other possibilities.

the only thing that helps elect republicans are votes for republicans. literally every other thing, including abstaining, does not help them.
