How male-dominated is that profession, anyway?
Very. The quick search I did indicated that 70.7% to potentially 97% of pilots are men.
Historically, when vision tests actually mattered, I could see that. These days most commercial flights could be piloted by practically blind people, outside of "jamming accidents" caused by the military, since the planes can see and detect everything better than any human, and we finally have the final approach lasers installed at every US airport.
These days it should probably be female dominated, just because statistically speaking women are being hired more frequently than men across the entirety of the job market.
