Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Shot dead because this is MURiCAHHH. And we are sociopaths here. USA USA USA... 🤮

Edit:
To the idiot that downvoted, what other country have you heard of where police has shot a woman for defending herself?

To the idiot that downvoted, what other country have you heard of where police has shot a woman for defending herself?

You want a full list of countries? Or are we restricting this to a single continent? Or NATO block? Or what?

Because Israel is some low hanging fruit.

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 41 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

As usual trans women are just seen as "acceptable" targets. Those cops have been itching to murder a minority and finally got what they saw as their opportunity. They knew what they were doing.

[–] FishFace@piefed.social 1 points 1 hour ago

Ok, but how many films or shows have you seen where the cops shoot at fleeing suspects? I think it's about way more than that - it's about US police's attitude to pursuit.

She needed to be interviewed by police, no question, right? But the police thought that, because she was running away, any means was justified in apprehending her. I think in the mind of a lot of the public too, someone "wanted" for questioning has earnt whatever comes to them if they run.

Whipping up a rage about this murder from the point of view of identity is dangerous, even though it may be a component. We don't know from this, and accusations that may turn out to be wrong are counterproductive. But this was a murder, so we should be directing our rage at what we do know.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 28 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

In a civilized country, that officer would be tried for murder.
I am not aware of any other democracy where the police can run around killing people at will and even in their homes, without being tried for murder.
When I write democracy I know USA is not really a democracy, but only a flawed democracy, or a 2nd rate democracy.

[–] AnotherWastedHuman@retrolemmy.com 14 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

"Representative democracy" - representative of the control freak rich holding the purse-strings that have long financed the vast majority of election campaigns.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago) (1 children)

The best democracies in the world are also representative. That is not the problem, the problem is that USA instead of improving regulation to reign in capitalism, has chosen to allow it to run wild taking over elections, and hasn't improved on the flawed FPP system.
Some places have ranked voting, and hopefully they will be pointers to the future, but there's a long way from where USA is currently to having any chance of that.

[–] TastySoup@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

I'm 100% in the ranked choice voting camp. And ideally, we'd find a way to do it proportionally but I acknowledge that would be a bit of a heavier lift within the current US framework, so I'd be happy with RCV as first step so we can work to elect folks that will help get the proportional aspect implemented.

For anyone who wants to know more, check out https://rcvresources.org/why-adopt-rcv and https://fairvote.org/our-reforms/proportional-ranked-choice-voting-information

And I also think we should have Democracy sausages! :) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democracy_sausage)

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 26 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Don't sweat the downvotes. Misclicks, mistaps are easy to do. And I think by far everyone here is largely going to agree with you on this. This is all heinous and unacceptable.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago (5 children)

Maybe you are right, but in standard interface downvotes turn red and upvoted blue, so it's pretty hard to misclick without noticing.

Maybe I'm too sensitive, IDK?

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 3 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

My client uses gestures to up and down vote, I do it on accident all the time.

Same. If I'm looking away from Voyager for a moment, I've seen accidental votes when I looked back that I reverse, and I'm sure there are ones I've missed.

[–] HuntressHimbo@lemmy.zip 19 points 14 hours ago

I have accidentally up or down voted a cartoonish number of things. I generally browse through mobile and my default scrolling motion has caught those arrows a lot

Its Lemmy, we aren't all using the same base software.

In fact I'm not even using Lemmy.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 8 points 14 hours ago

I dunno, on mobile most of the time. And I have 100% had votes I didn't intentionally place. But this is heinous both that in it happened and that people will largely dismiss accountability for it. Because it was somehow a minority and could never happen to them. Which should never be the standard to begin with.

[–] dogslayeggs@lemmy.world 5 points 14 hours ago

Just a few minutes ago I accidentally hit up instead of down. I didn't notice for awhile.

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Interesting, how do you get that comment number?

[–] Pennywise@quokk.au 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

... Menu, then "View original..." with the rainbow pentagram(fediverse icon) copy that link

[–] Buffalox@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago

Ah silly me, thank you very much that is very cool to have that option. 😎 👍

[–] Tiral@lemmy.world 11 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

China. But they're more about black bagging you and taking you to a facility. To be technical "trans" magically doesn't exist in China, they've all been killed, beaton to the point of they're "not trans" anymore or hiding hoping no one finds out.

You can downvote the fuck out of me, but it doesn't mean it isn't true because you don't like it.

PS I didn't downvote you, just answered your question.

Edit. Pretty much any Islamic country too. Forgot to add Russia, they're homophobic as shit.

What you need to understand is in these countries, their governments control news, period. These things happen all over, you just won't hear about them because that's how they work. The US along with other first world countries share and report information. So it's incredibly easy to criticize them when horrible things like this happen. It's hard to criticize something that's never released.

[–] Derpenheim@lemmy.zip 4 points 12 hours ago

This guy thinks the government doesn't control our media

[–] zikzak025@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

To the idiot that downvoted, what other country have you heard of where police has shot a woman for defending herself?

Not to diminish the point being made, but there are a lot of countries that commit widespread or even state-sanctioned violence against women. Most of them are third-world hellholes. So the US is in good company.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

I wouldn't say it's good company, Bob.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

I am more sad nobody even seems to care when victim is trans. People just ignore.
