When installing MegaSync for the first time, I used this command from their website in order to install it: wget https://mega.nz/linux/repo/Arch_Extra/x86_64/megasync-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst && sudo pacman -U "$PWD/megasync-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst"
And no, even using -Sy didn't work. I guess me being an idiot and not understanding how Linux works or why it functions like this, I can no longer install anything with pacman as it complains about a repo database file for "Arch_Extra" being missing now :(
Looking at the command, I assumed the download would temporarily switch to that repo that was necessary to download the program, not completely alter how my pacman works though...
I'm not sure why MegaSync would just override everything and ruin my pacman like this.
Thanks for the tip, I do normally do that as a first instinct when installing things. However, Megasync wasn't on the official cachyos repo for me like many things I end up looking for :( So I had to check the vendors website to see if it was even available on Linux at all.
Perhaps I should have just checked the AUR repository or installed it via a different method instead of doing all that beforehand. I admit it's my fault for not looking up what wget even was at first lol
Somehow I missed the AUR part. AUR is currently suffering from several attacks. Packages from there should always be checked. But rarely are.
Yup that's partly why I just went to the vendor website before that, I heard about those attacks a week or two ago and removed a lot of my old AUR packages until I figured out what was safe to use. I try to avoid AUR as much as possible now.
Me being a newbie to linux means AUR is a death trap and isn't a viable option for me. I've been learning a lot but sadly I don't know how to program or understand the code yet when reading the PKG Builds to verify if it's not malicious or not. Just the looking for npm or weird downloads part lol
Ideally I would love if I could simply get all my programs from my package manager, but it seems like it's not always that simple and is missing quite a bit of programs on pacman. That's likely why people get viruses from AUR in the first place, since the program they wanted can't be found in pacman, they immediately go running straight to AUR as it's usually just one tab click over on things like cachyos's package manager for example.
