Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Folks here's the deal. Corporations have an obligation to the shareholder over everyone else. Costco doesn't give a shit about consumers. Costco cares about nurturing and communicating their brand, which is all about being pro-consumer.
Target doesn't give a shit about you. Apple doesn't give a shit about you. Nike. Whatever brand you love, it doesn't love you back. Unless you're a shareholder and you want a very specific thing.
Corporations that kept DEI had their internal prognosticators tell them "it'll blow over and be better for us if we stay the course." That's it. Never in any meeting did someone utter the words "It's the right thing to do, that's why."
Corporations that tossed DEI made a different calculation.
That's it.
So celebrate that our side currently has a very good market segment in all these corporations, but don't celebrate anything else.
DEI since the start also was completely just "lets look like we care about it", I wouldn't be suprised if it is completely utterly innefective at achieving the stated goal of promoting inclusion
This is the truth.
You're not strictly wrong, and I understand that corporations are not anyone's friends, but the line between these two distinctions is vanishingly thin.
None of the people who hated DEI/affirmative action could ever tell me what it actually is. None of the people who say “let the market decide” understand or recognize that there are serious financial benefits to diversity based practices.
Yep. It's the same reason why corporations generally support women in the workplace, too. It's an amoral calculation about more consumption.
But I'm pretty sure I saw that corps also came down on racial equality in the Civil Rights era because it was better for business, they figured. Again, not necessarily a moral choice.
