MODERATORS

“Florida Congressman Randy Fine was going door to door looking for votes ... and somehow ended up rifling through a voter's mail,” TMZ reported Tuesday.

In a video that has since gone viral, a man who TMZ identified as Fine can be seen ringing the homeowner’s doorbell before stepping toward a mailbox mounted on the porch wall. The man identified as Fine stands mostly still for about 15 seconds before opening the mailbox and rifling through envelopes.

While TMZ definitively declared that Fine's conduct did not run afoul of federal law that prohibits tampering with another person’s mail, other critics weren’t so sure.

Susan Acevedo, for instance, a Californian political strategist and candidate for San Jacinto City Council, argued that merely touching someone else’s mail could constitute a crime, and urged her more than 38,000 followers on X to contact law enforcement about the incident.

Huh, I didn't realize that having one of my comments removed by moderator would make it so that I couldn't even see what I wrote, unless it's just my client. Fair enough though, your rules and such.

It just seems incredibly foolish to me to be one of the politicians that's contributing to the sort of irrational fear that would lead to that kind of a response and then go door to door knocking on the doors of people who may have that fear and response, in a place where that has happened to delivery drivers and wrong turn drivers, but I suppose foolish and arrogant is a prerequisite to running for his office.

Like grue@lemmy.world said, you can still see it in the modlog.

This one was hard, because you're right, he would probably be saying (or doing) much, much worse if a rival did this. When people put like what you put up, I always hope someone else is a mod so I don't have to pull it, lol. You absolutely can say what you said in your most recent reply, just giving visuals of gun shots at him is going to get your comment pulled. I don't care who it is or if they "deserve it."

That's one of the few things I very much dislike about Lemmy. You can still look it up in the modlog, though (unless instead of merely just removing the comment, you get banned entirely and the mod checks the "remove content" button, in which case everything you ever wrote is just gone with no record at all).
