Alcohol kills more Americans each year than all other drugs combined. So why aren't we treating it like the public health crisis that it is? Today I'm talking to health journalists Lev Facher and Isabella Cueto to unpack how it harms us, who benefits, and what we can do about it.

Clickbait title and people are sick of prohibition. The title implies it should be treated like other drugs, and in most of the world that means criminalized. Haven't watched the video to know if that's where they're going with it, but it's a bad title.

Plus, the subject is done to death. It's an old topic that has been hashed out for the better part of a century. There's really nothing useful a video can add to the matter. If anything, yet another video makes it harder to sort through what's already out there if you're trying to gain an understanding.

Edit: also, is enough over an hour long that it doesn't really belong here, if the rules are kept reasonably.

They expressly say it's not about prohibition and more about awareness. Shame many people on Lemmy are too narrow-minded to even listen to the conversation before downvoting.

I disagree that it's narrow minded.

A video is a significant chunk of time. In this case, over an hour.

The title and thumbnail are all someone scrolling by has to use to decide if they're going to spend 1/24th if their day, likely at least 1/16 of their waking hours, and an even bigger proportion of their day if they work on said video.

If the title is clickbait, or even just doesn't accurately portray the contents, it isn't narrow minded to down vote and pass by. It's doing exactly what lemmy/fedi voting is supposed to do, add weight to the visibility and exposure of a given post based on the merits of the post. A down vote on this one is perfectly valid.

In my case, I down voted for the clickbait, with the time being a reason I didn't see when I tapped, but would also have been a good reason. Shitty titles are shitty, and while you didn't create the title, you did post a video with that title, and didn't provide anything along with it to give the community something else to make a vote on. It isn't a vote about you, it's about the merits of the post. That's how it goes. Whining about the votes after the fact isn't just pointless, it's lame. You take the downs with the ups, and it ain't personal.

Hell, I've down voted people I know in meatspace because the posts weren't right for the community they were in, or were otherwise not fit. It really, truly isn't personal, and most people scrolling by don't give a flying fuck about anything but if it's something they agree with, or that it's not a good post (with the vice versa for upvotes).
