If the guy was serious about reputation appearance, he'd have bought retention.co.jp which requires:

  • a Japan registered company
  • have an established office
  • have a permanent residency visa or G'd forbid, a Japanese partner.
  • may have only one .co.jp domain
  • it should be close to your company name

Anyone and their mother can own a .com domain name. Which is exactly what happened in this case.

If, in and operating only within the US, and it's completely legal then put your cock on the block.

If he is into perception management ^^ is my honest position and this is how i'd react to a .com domain name.
