They did have a plan, but unfortunately, the central character of their plan went ahead and ruined his life, so they had to pivot.

They still should have recast. They did in iron man and iron man 2. And now with a multiverse and variants it should have been extremely easy to pull off.

I guarantee executives said the audience is to dumb to understand while weve literally been following along since the beginning.

If one thing I hope comes from all of this is after secret wars. It truly reboots the entire MCU. No more 35 films needed to watch and tv shows.

Also can we agree. Stand alone movies are fine, there's no need to connect everything. If you have a good script just go with that. Blade did it well. Didn't connect to anything.

I still think Kevin Smith is right. DC should make an ultra low budget batman horror film set in Arkham Asylum. Even black and white. And it would become a top grossing movie.

Ehhh ant man was shit before he revealed himself as a prick. But again that was handled poorly.

They didnt need to pivot straight to an avengers, they could have built up. Our bug bad was introduced at comic con and a trailer

They did plan to hint at variants of Kang in the few movies that came after Loki. Then Majors was out, and RDJ came back as Doom too late to do anything in any other movie before Doomsday. Until F4 and the Thunderbolts post-credit. There just hasn't been that many movies or series between those two events.

Agreed but it is by design, they decide when they come out. Push avengers by a year and have more in between to build up.

Everyone knows what happened, delaying or recasting is appropriate. If this is bad then it becomes a why didnt they situation.

Ideally, sure, but then this also happened in the period when they were reducing their output to focus on quality instead of quantity because everyone was telling them they were pushing out mostly shit, so... And this is still seen in how this year only has Spider-Man and Doomsday, and then next year will only have Secret Wars. Setting things up worked when people liked the first couple phases, but Cap 4, The Marvels, Ant-Man and such have not been doing well.

After Endgame, the plan was for Kang, a villain from the future, to come back in time and fight the avengers. Immediately after Endgame, the TV show Loki introduced Kang in an unexpected way, where he had already been defeated by himself from a different universe. The winning Kang decided to destroy the multi verse so he would be the only Kang, and so no evil Kangs would exist. Loki kills him, thus re-creating the multi verse, and unleashing Kang to the world. In Ant Man, a bad version of Kang is the main villain, but at the end we see a bunch of other Kang's gathered in a group saying "Oh great, that particularly bad Kang is dead, now we can start taking over". This was supposed to reach its climax in "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", which was supposed to be the next Avengers movie.

Unfortunately, the actor for Kang, Jonathan Majors, was arrested for assault of his girlfriend, and eventually lost a civil court case for it. Marvel dropped him as the actor for Kang, and since their entire story revolved around hundreds of versions of this guy, they had to make a hard pivot. Now, Robert Downey Jr. will return as Dr. Doom, presumably as a "What if Iron Man became evil in another universe" sort of thing. There was a solid year or so where no one knew what was happening next for Marvel because we knew they canceled Kang, but had no idea what they would do instead. The end result is this era of movies seem to be pointing in several different directions all at once, whereas previously there was a coherent plan forward the whole time.
