In peaceful times, people cling to broken systems simply because "that's how it's always been done". Comfort is a prison.

This crisis is a great opportunity to screw Microsoft.

Chaos isn't a pit. Chaos is a ladder.

Canadians should be agressively lobbying their politicians to embrace Linux and the open source ecosystem. Call your representatives. Write to your city council. Contact your town IT department. Do it now.

As someone who has contracted for a few Canadian government agencies...oof good luck. I know Europe is making the switch, slowly, but in Canada it would take A LOT longer. Many systems are still on Windows 7. Many have ONLY just transitioned to 10 and even fewer to 11. Probably the most up to date one would be Ontario's Employment Services. Only just got them on laptops so they could be mobile as opposed to using ancient dells. Add to the fact the vast majority of software they use is custom and build specifically for older Window installations. I shudder to think how long and how much it would cost to get that stuff working on Linux but man kudos to whomever takes that contract, they'll make bank.

But yeah. Don't get me wrong I'd love to see it but I don't see it happening in my life time and i'm in my mid 40s.

If they're so outdated maybe they're due for a change? The main thing that is needed is motivation

100% they're A. outdated and B. need to change. what I'm saying is it will take a VERY long time i.e. i'll be dead and in the ground by the time they complete the transition.
