Enough Musk Spam
For those that have had enough of the Elon Musk worship online.
No flaming, baiting, etc. This community is intended for those opposed to the influx of Elon Musk-related advertising online. Coming here to defend Musk or his companies will not get you banned, but it likely will result in downvotes. Please use the reporting feature if you see a rule violation.
Opinions from all sides of the political spectrum are welcome here. However, we kindly ask that off-topic political discussion be kept to a minimum, so as to focus on the goal of this sub. This community is minimally moderated, so discussion and the power of upvotes/downvotes are allowed, provided lemmy.world rules are not broken.
Post links to instances of obvious Elon Musk fanboy brigading in default subreddits, lemmy/kbin communities/instances, astroturfing from Tesla/SpaceX/etc., or any articles critical of Musk, his ideas, unrealistic promises and timelines, or the working conditions at his companies.
Tesla-specific discussion can be posted here as well as our sister community /c/RealTesla.
It's this sort of statement that really pisses me off. Because proving it wrong* takes much more time than it takes to casually throw it down & take root in mindless minds.
* first and foremost because it's way too broad
For reference, this is typically called Brandolini's law

I find that dumping a false factoid that is not irrefutable without considerable work is a common tool of capitalists/fascists, just like offloading labor onto masses of workers while taking credit for said work is their way of alienating entire societies
In both cases they're having other people do the work. Fascists are lazy and irresponsible
It is a key component of the gish gallop, which we've seen in full force from this administration. It has parallels to a packet multiplier DDOS attack in networking, where the attacker spends comparatively little bandwidth but causes the target to have to deal with much larger amounts of traffic.
Cheers I didn't know that
Typically predated by numerous pre-internet proverbs. For reference:
Falsehood flies, and the Truth comes limping after it
and many variations
I'm partial to this one-
A lie travels around the world before the truth gets its boots on.
They're parasites
Hanging wasn't the preferred method of capital punishment and it certainly wasn't confined to murders nor was it only used when there was 100% certainty. There's a whole religion built around protesting Rome's capital punishment.
I would say the most common hangings were the lynching of black people in the US. But even that saw competitive use of guns and automobile or horse drags. Nor was guilt firmly established prior to the given cases.
The issue with addressing it is there's too large of a surface area that can be misdirected to some other part of it.
I mean since they just casually throw it around, you don't need to disprove it. Just call it a flat out lie and Elon an ignorant bullshitter with no knowledge of world history.
Even better ask Grok to criticize it with a simple but convincing language, it will probably do a unreasonably good job of it despite its biased training.
But certain people just lap this sort of shit up without thinking. It's got that tasty "way back when everything was better" ingredient.
This might be the best way to answer that - if I ever used Xhitter.
