A lot of people from that modernist movement were real awful. In addition to being a Nazi collaborator, Stein was also big time into Zionism and spoke fondly of the illegal kibbutzes in Palestine. I'm a lot more interested in the post modern responses to modernism in Surrealism and Dadaism. Of the two I lean way harder into Dadaism.
Also before you go diving into any of those movements, please note: Salvador Dali was a fake ass phony and is not all that representative of surrealism.
