Apologies for linking to Xitter, xcancel has been shut down. Proton Mail seems to be completely offline everywhere.

[...] their support for Trump.

That was one guy (their CEO) expressing his personal support for one thing Trump did. Proton released a statement claiming that their company as a whole does not support any political stance or affiliation.

Proton haters (and anti-privacy groups) blew it up into a whole ordeal to try and discredit Proton as a service. But it was literally just one dude being an out-of-touch idiot on his own personal account.

I'm not saying Proton is perfect, but it's one of the better privacy services out there today, so of course governments, politicians, and anti-privacy organizations are looking to tear them down. They don't want true privacy; they need the illusion of privacy, while maintaining their back doors into everyone's business.

I don't know qhat bot farm you get that many upvotes from but you really need to do more research.

That was one guy (their CEO) expressing his personal support for one thing Trump did. Proton released a statement claiming that their company as a whole does not support any political stance or affiliation.

The first part was a statement that was backed by the board (this after the CEO guy doubled down on supporting Trump when questioned).

The second part almost merits no explainer: saying you are "neutral" on politics is the same as saying you favour those why already have the power - the oligarchs and those who maintain the status quo.

maybe some people just don't give a fuck about what CEOs of the companies they consume products of tweet in their personal accounts? All this drama is a nothingburger to me and a complete waste of time.

Presumably bots and right-wings don't give a fuck, because they know they have the advantage on that one. And other people who are apathetic to the issue deserve what they get. The problem is that this does not function as social darwinism, so their idiocy drags the rest of us down with them.

We all pick our battles. I have dozens of things more relevant to be worried about. If you think it's bad that part of the society doesn't really care about what a CEO is tweeting, maybe you have a really good life, or maybe you're going to burn out soon.
