Koreans use ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ (hhhhh) and ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ (kkkkk). They also put ~~~~~ everywhere, apparently that makes things less serious.

In Japan they'll use either 笑笑笑 or wwww. Sometimes you see ハハハ which is a transliteration of hahaha.

I'm American who grew up in Florida with a mother who grew up in Puerto Rico, with tons of Spanish exposure, and I still read that as "yah yah yah yah yah"

It’s due to how the letter is spelled in brazilian portuguese, it more of a 'kah' sound, like a cackle.
