I still have an ad for Compuserve somewhere. I thought it was $7 an hour but could be wrong. On top of that, you had to pay long distance fees to the phone company. Compuserve was in Columbus Ohio. From my house in the Cleveland suburbs it was probably around 50 cents a minute, about $1.70 in today's money. Also dial up modems were super slow, mine was 1200 baud or 1.2k a second
