He's on sick leave. Which would be totally normal in Europe.

The irony here is that he gets to enjoy what he has worked rabidly his entire life to deny his fellow citizens.

Fuck this walking corpse.

Yeah, if what was happening to Mitch wasn't so exceptional in America then this would be a non issue.

Americans, btw, what's happening to Mitch is just what happens to ANY PERSON AT ALL in most countries when they are suffering from severe long-term illness and disability.

Except that most people in most countries are retired by age 84 and therefore wouldn't be "off" on sick leave in the first place.

But yes, otherwise, the point stands.

Yeah, if what was happening to Mitch wasn’t so exceptional in America then this would be a non issue.

It would still be an issue because (a) Kentuckians are missing half of their Senate representation, and (b) because his death is obviously being hidden for bad faith political purposes, to illegally deprive Kentucky's governor of his right to appoint a replacement.

i was told there would be something called "checks and balances"!?

[-] Wolf314159@startrek.website 1 points 1 day ago

Nevermind that regardless of any other factor the absence alone for such a long time means that the ethical thing to do would be for him to resign.

Most countries that have figured out people have worth beyond the bottom line.

[-] mangobanana@discuss.online 23 points 2 days ago

Except in most American jobs you would be fired by now for being on sick leave this long

[-] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 19 points 2 days ago

Yes, that's one of the things that happens in this violent and inhumane nation. I now live in Europe, and I had a lot more than 75 days of sick leave when I had my amputation. I still have my job and my employer isn't mad at me in the slightest, because here it's understood that shit happens and that's life.

Now the orange felon has made it nearly impossible for americans to leave because the world hates our guts even more. I'd be embarrassed to even go to another country without a short that just says SORRYYYYYY on it.

[-] dreamkeeper@literature.cafe 3 points 1 day ago

The world isn't reddit/lemmy, most people aren't going to say or do anything unless you act like an asshole.

[-] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago

Yeah true. I'd still rather just pretend I'm Canadian

[-] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 4 points 1 day ago

I certainly would be careful about saying you're American if you go on vacation abroad. But I'm a long-time expat, and I can tell you if you behave well and you integrate in the society of your choice, people know the difference between ugly Americans and those who choose to be better.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Fired, and at his age, since no one works at that age by choice, homeless.

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

Mitch would croak so fast if he heard that Congress passed a bill giving Americans job protection for sick leave equal to the length of his absence.

[-] Captainvaqina@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

He's already dead. He would rise from his coffin to vote nay on such a measure.

[-] arsCynic@piefed.social 1 points 1 day ago

The irony of a parasite being sick. It's like cancer having cancer. Problem solved real soon.

[-] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 1 points 1 day ago

and still people vote for him, what's the secret sauce that lowers IQ so much ? Mountain Dew ?

[-] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'm not so sure he's actually enjoying it. He seems pretty checked out mentally from what I gather.

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 5 points 2 days ago

Do European leaders keep their authority if they go MIA for months on end?

[-] lemmygarden@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

Fuck this walking corpse.

Lol he is wheelchair bound. He can't walk.
