You have to subscribe to your car wash in the US? Wtf

[-] EonNShadow@pawb.social 24 points 1 month ago

This is America

We will own nothing and be happy

Also no, they still offer individual washes at places but they also offer a subscription service alongside them

[-] TheBraveSirRobbin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Where are people going that have subscriptions? I have never seen that. Closest I've seen is you get a discount if you buy like 10 or something

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

One near me does it. They just happened to have a special where a month cost less than a single wash and my spouse went for it.

Nightmare to cancel the damn thing.

They might show up soon. I think they're popping up more frequently now that ALPR camera systems are more prevalent.

Some of them are weird where I am because you can buy a shitty/fast 3 minute wash for $15 or the good-soapy-with-undercarriage one for $25, OR you can buy the ultra-mega-unlimited monthly washes card for $32 or something.

I bet enough people buy the $32 unlimited one and only go one time, that it's basically free money to them. But if you're going to get at least two washes per month, you have to get the unlimited to get the better price. It's all very clever and designed to get the most value from you.

They all have "free" vacuums though, for paying customers.

Mikes Car Wash, although it's more like buying washes in advance to get a better price. They do have an unlimited wash subscription thing too though

✨️capitalism✨️

[-] LodeMike@lemmy.today 4 points 1 month ago

Usually no but they heavily push it

[-] Vandals_handle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

It exists but not universal. At least not in car centric California.

[-] bandwidthcrisis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I used a "Mister Car Wash" in Turlock, CA that has a subscription option. That's the only one I've ever noticed

It was convenient that even the single use the fee included use of parking bays where I could use a vacuum.

Down side was that I later noticed the machine had nearly torn my license plate off.

Attempted identity theft!

[-] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

Subscription car washes are all over Arizona though.

[-] CADmonkey@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

They really push it. One of the ways they do this is by charging $10 for a single wash.

Which is silly, because a sponge and soap is cheaper than $10, and if I wash the car at home I don't even have to be sober.
