That show is so un-goth. They took a cool old story that was, in all it's various formats, about a family delighting in being themselves without concern for how weird anyone else thought they were - pretty damn goth as these things go - and turned it into just another weaksauce knockoff of that magic-school series by that awful transphobe.
I watched the 1st season bc it cast a lot of Latinos! The first ep was all right. But after bingeing a couple episodes I was like: "ok kid, I get it, you're dark and dangerous..." and by the end of the season she was just another kid with a cellphone.
Still, I read that a lot of young girls picked up a "take-no-shit" attitude from the show, which is kinda good, right?
Wife is retired goth girl (her words) and she says the same thing.
Yeah, I'm pretty much with you. It's not particularly Addams (although their Gomez is pretty good, not Raul Julia good, but decent), not very goth, not very IDGAF.
All the same I've enjoyed it quite a lot and it beats the shit out of the vast majority of current productions (which says more about the quality of current productions and less about the particular show).
I never really watched this new thing. Something about it just didn't hit me right. Lacking the fish out of water dynamic the family is joyously known for. In a school full of oddballs they're normal. Though I'm not gonna judge anyone who does enjoy it. It's not as bad as Rob's Munsters at least. I'll commend them on some of their music picks. Introducing a whole new generation to Luxe Interior and Poison Ivy Rorschach. I can get solidly behind that. But yeah that's it. The rest just seems to miss the mark for me. And I don't tolerate terfs and bigots even on shows I love. Graham Linehan is a bitter self sabotaging tosser himself.
