It shows a picture of a AI generated image of a king and queen referencing them as Omarchy users. Then it shows a floating icon of a jester representing Linux users that pops up some of the following quotes:

  • The peasants whiper the whole distro castle vibe-coded
  • It's a bunch of dotfiles
  • Ricing is not engineering, my liege
  • Congratulations, you have discovered i3
  • Two JPEG's, a gradient, and delusions of monarchy
  • Zero days since the last zero day, sire
  • Coronation was on Tueday, the build was red
  • Wait until they hear about NixOS
  • It's not a distro, . It's a theme folder with a domain name
  • It's the worst distro in the market, they cry. Its not even a distro

I believe this whole thing was done in response of some "monarchy" and "oligarchy" comments on Omarchy around the fediverse. It is also sometimes weird to get the "joke" because the speaker changes.

last week DHH got a few of his friends to give him a few million for his dotfiles. since then he's been using said funds to market his dotfiles thus the reason you're seeing more posts about it, more youtube vids from "content creators" saying how great it is or how fantastic it is that the money could potentially go towards FOSS projects (Bradie, Typecraft, bunch of others who have clearly been given a little something something). DHH is also running a competition for omarchy plugins with the winner getting something like $4000 so the store is flooded with well over 1000 vibe coded slop (and exploitable) plugins.

it's all marketing for the eventual rugpull of what I anticipate being "Omarchy Premium". that's 100% coming.

I have no doubt there are people that are going to pay that with their eyes closed, they paid $300 for attending their conference.
