Talked to an autistic student today. PC specs are a great interest of his. I told him how a bit more than 10 years ago I was building a PC and didn't want to pay 300€ for a gtx 970 because that was just too much money for a GPU. Got an R9 280X instead because that was a bit over 200€. My entire build cost me 800€ back then. Good times.
One crypto mania and an AI bubble later and you'd be happy to get a midrange GPU for 600 bucks and you'd suck some dicks behind a dumpster to get 32GB of DDR5 RAM.
I spent around 1100 Euros on a build back then. I thought it was stupidly expensive at the time but it was fairly close to a top-tier system. It had a i7 6700k, a GTX1080 and 32GBs of RAM. I replaced it at the beginning of last year (thank god for the timing) and gave the parts to a friend who still uses it every day. The 1100 Euros turned out to be an insane value after all.
You could get 128 GB of RAM for what 32 costs now. It’s wild.
"32GB is 32GB" is the new "20 bucks is 20 bucks"?
