I mean sure you could just guess at the percentages, or you could look at what people actively serving said their reasons for joining were.

29% said it was for financial security, and if we assume ALL of those have NO option besides being homeless, not just that they wanted financial stability, that's still 70% of the military supporting the current evil by choice.
OH DANG, so you mean to say, when I clocked it around 33% were poor and needed a job I was almost spot on with a study you found.... crazy....
it's almost like... My lived experience means that I probably know wtf I'm talking about vs some terminally online, privileged, teenagers.
You can be mad, you can downvote me in protest.... but.. you see the numbers, right? The same numbers I've just shown and you just linked to.... You can't downvote the facts and numbers. And the fact is, that you have a bias, a privilege, that blinds you. That tells you it's justifiable to punch down at millions of people (active and veteran) who are victims of the same shitty system of opportunistic capitalism.
I'm not making excuses for the military as a whole, or its actions. But I'm not going to lump the cook as the same kind of monster as the general. And again, you're a crazy person if you do.
That's 29% that joined for financial stability, not that they had no other options. There are many that join because they are destitute, and I won't blame them just like I won't blame the few in auschwitz who stole from others while starving. That is absolutely not the majority though and most are there because it was convenient for them or high paying.
The cook is not equally responsible, just like a getaway driver in a bank robbery is not equally responsible, but they are still massively aiding the perpetrators. If every cook quit the military, would that not have a massive negative impact on military operations? Lower morale, harder to get certain types of foods eaten, more waste, food is one of THE most important things for a military.
You can argue the extent of the impact, but it's one of the biggest deciders of morale, and no chef means massive morale hit, which means less willingness to follow (in trumps case, illegal) orders, less willingness to remain in the army, and worse overall performance. By providing that service you are significantly increasing the effectiveness of the military. That doesn't make you the same as the person shooting the gun, but you still carry a lot of the responsibility for it happening.
