The way I remember it is stalactites without the e says tits and tits hang
Stalagmites might reach the roof one day, and Stalactites are holding on tight, so they don't fall
Nah just remember it as stalagMites and stalacTites. T faces down and looks like a stalactite and M faces up and looks like 2 stalagmites
I learned it as stalaCtites hang from the Ceiling and stalaGmites come from the Ground.

That's probably the best one. Otherwise I think of Mites ~ termites, and some stalagmites look vaguely like those classic termite mounds.
Tites come down, mites go up.
