My first job was at a place that had a 20x markup on cables. It was good for closing deals. Saying "I'll throw in a free cable" sounded like a $15 gain to the customer when it was only a $1 hit to us.
And yes, I still pull out the RCA cables from time to time. My IDE ribbon cables won't see much action these days.
