GrapheneOS is currently defending its use of AI coding tools on Mastodon against complaints by various accounts claiming to be users.

We do not understand where you're coming from or why you're so incredibly angry with us. It's not justified and does not make sense.

Even people who can code tend get worse over time the more and more they rely on "AI" to avoid having to think too hard.

Studies have shown doctors who rely heavily on "AI" are similarly affected.

People using calculators stop being able to calculate things and don't even get me started in these evil "abacus" things that strip people off their short term memory! People using cheap paper to write whatever they want will not only have worse calligraphy but also write about whatever comes to their mind! Etc. etc. history is full of this.

People who rely too heavily on anything get brain atrophy with net negative consequence.

Those same tools can be used for learning and exploration and strengthening skills - all a matter of how they're used.
