MODERATORS
All the shows I am currently into are technically still around; but they haven't put out an episode for several years now. By the time they do release something, I'll have fucking forgot about it. But they'll also only put out 6 fuckin' episodes which leads me to wonder what the hell was going on that whole time? There's no way it took 3 years to film 6 fucking episodes of a show that is just people talking in the same location every time.
Animes are way ahead in this department. They have been releasing those recap episodes for a long time.
On a personal note though, I avoid ongoing works like the plague, because you never know when you are gonna get hooked on a series that stays on a cliffhanger for like 10 years and yes, AoT, I'm looking at you.
I can't speak to the specific show you were thinking of, but it definitely could take that long. TV shows used to be leaner and lower budget, because they had such a fast pace. Nowadays each episode is not far off from a feature film on polish and sometimes length. If each episode is an hour, a 6 episode series is practically 3 feature films-worth of work.
I'd love to see shows go back to that old model of quicker runs with leaner budgets and less fx reliance. Not saying all shows should be that way, but it would be nice to have a mix.
