The "release them all at once so they binge" strategy is also a big part nobody's talking about.

Yeah - I'll binge a show if I'm able because I have no self control, but it's not how they should be watched if you want to keep people engaged. You lose the water cooler talk about last night's episode.

My boss and I have similar tastes in TV, and we rarely discuss Netflix shows because they're flashes we burn through over a weekend. But when episodes of Star Trek or The Pitt are drip-fed to us, we end up talking about them every week.

The Pitt is a highly regarded show (I haven't watched the new Star Trek, so I can't comment), and HBO puts out quality shows time and time again (the wire, sopranos, six feet under, game of thrones, true detective -- except season 2, the leftovers, station eleven, tales from the crypt, veep, curb your enthusiasm, and yada yada). I don't let them drip feed The Pitt to me. I wait until it's all released and then binge it. I like it better that way. The quality is probably why it's water cooler talk. Drip feeding it is more about keeping subscribers for the shareholders than it is for the enjoyment of the viewer.

Now, do I believe The Pitt is as good as its praise? Not really, but that's another conversation. I will say that it has got better as the episodes went on, and has grown into nearly being deserving of its praise.

Netflix churns out steaming piles of garbage time and time again. Even their flagship series(es?) aren't that great. The last two seasons of Stranger Things, for example, were straight up turds -- as was the season where Eleven ran away. I'm not surprised you're not discussing Netflix originals. Obviously there are exceptions, tho they're exceptions (I enjoyed Space Force, what little we got of it).

But if you prefer shows to be drip fed, I'm glad for you -- I bet that method doesn't go away anytime soon.
