Sure. It is known that Apple shows up late. Users keep buying their products, so they must be doing something right. 🤷🏻♀️
I think more often than not it's more important to be early rather than being exactly the first. Unless you patent it in a way that makes it extremely hard to copy but software doesn't really work that way a lot of times. Being first barely seems to give you any advantage long term. You just want to be early enough before the network effect takes hold, for example.
