all the defects

Are there more than the backlight bleed?

Image persistence also. I can get the IPS panel on my Thinkpad to display a ghost of an image on what's supposed to be black space for upwards of a minute if I use the particular band of colors it seems to hate.

Yikes, that does sound bad.

Well there's other downsides to it, but IPS glow is it's only defect.

Severe enough that it renders the monitor unusable. Even if you win the "IPS lottery", there's still some and I can't understand willingly buying something that looks broken. TN is definitely king still, even with the worse viewing angles, but like who uses their monitor from 45 degrees.

Fuck it! I'm going back to an electron gun with magnets in a vacuum!

I mean, I really don't notice it with regular use, though my monitor is an IPS Black one, so might be less bad. And I definitely notice discoloration on TN panels given how close I am to my monitor =P

I've never heard being close as an issue, I can't see any problems from distance myself. They just have really bad viewing angles, so yeah if you are slightly off angle to it, the edges start to fade. My IPS experience was horrible though, tried a few and the blacklight bleed/IPS glow is just horrendous. I use dark mode on everything, so there's no avoiding seeing it. OLED gave me eye strain and burn-in isn't something I don't want to deal with. So... here we are with the good ol' TN panel.
