Have I just never realized that the sockets of video cards are "upside down" when inserted? ๐Ÿ˜… Or is this an illusion created by how expansion card are displayed when advertised?

one more reason to build an upside down atx case.

At the very least, it would be cool to try to build in an old horizontal case. :)
