I still think Master of Puppets is a fantastic album though.

You say that, and I hate that album, but it's a legendary meme now and that's probably better than if it was Load/Reload 3.0.
My name was on that first list of 150k. I never really liked Metallica to begin with and only snagged like 2 songs for a gym mix someone requested for track practice.
They are also just kind of shitty people in general.
They've spent their entire lives with everyone telling them they were gifted musical idols, and they are to an extent. That doesn't make them great or useful people though.
They won't build you a house, or heal the sick, or drill a well, or take away your garbage, but they are good at what they do.
Funny enough. Vanilla ice would build you a house.

Are you a drummer? Cause I feel like drummers always hate Lars. I know nothing about drumming, and they all seem the same to me.
He's just a giant asshole, that's my main beef with him. For example, when they played in Bulgaria back in the day, he did an interview on TV and he was wearing two rolexes, one on each wrist.

i'm just a percussionist, not a drummer (if you ask i will lie and say i play wood block) and i wouldn't say hate, but i really dislike lars. if he bought me a drink i'd decline.

The Metallica show I saw they were touring with Five Loser Death Punch. FFDP made plenty of right wing dog whistle comments through their set, and there’s no secret about how they want to be percieved.
I have never been to a tour where the main band doesn’t choose supporting bands that generally align with their views. Sometimes the less-popular band gets to say what the main one doesn’t want to themselves.
The atendees flew trump flags, thin blue line flags, amd Gadsden flags in the parking lot. They wore militia-style shirts and hats (crossed rifles, “freedom” slogans, raggedy flag shirts, etc). They were everywhere.
Metallica’s public image is highly curated, but everything I found about them points toward “highly conservative rich white dudes with few consequences” beliefs. The attendee’s display of thier politics just seals it.
I was a very long time Metallica fan, from the RtL, MoP, and AJfA days. I thought they were way out of line when it came to threatening fans over the whole Napster thing, but the right wing BS I saw at the concert ensures I’ll never listen to them again.
