FedEx in Sweden doesn't even leave their warehouse to succeed in making their failed delivery. Same with UPS. It's honestly impressive how successful these two companies can suck at doing the only thing they're enlisted to do.
I can see in tracking that my packages first get scanned upon arrival to their regional warehouse, and then within 15-30 minutes it becomes "failed delivery, no one home". Even if I was to be their first stop, driving from the warehouse to my house would take at least 2 hours. Maybe they're actually trucking it at 300km/hr, but then I'd notice the police chase. But no truck ever seen. Many days I worked from home because I was to get an urgent package that never came.
After the first few times, I joined their "My Choice" and "Delivery Manager" or whatever they call it... but that did absolutely nothing, even if I explicitly choose "leave the package at my doorstop, I don't care if someone steals it", the shit still never leaves their warehouse!
I have never seen the face of a single FedEx or UPS man in real life, despite having 30+ packages from them over the years. Maybe they don't dare to show themselves after screwing me over for so many years...? But then they could at the least just throw my packages outside my door and run for their life instead of hoping I'm going to drive to your warehouse and pick it up myself!
If I want to buy something and don't see a PostNord or DHL option, I'm not buying. And if it ends up being FedEx/UPS somehow, I contact the seller to choose something else, or to just give me a refund directly, because it's not gonna arrive.
And what might come as a surprise for some Germans, DHL here works wonderfully basically 100% of the time. Thank you Germans for doing your jobs ❤️
Funny you should mention PostNord. In Finland (at least a couple of years back) "LostNord" seems to be the delivery option people complain the most about. As in people yelling at the telephone going "I was home all day and I could see the van driving right past the house around the time the tracker says the attempt failed" and then they get to have a week long ordeal figuring out which warehouse their parcel is in.
(Apparently they blame the contractors. Also, can't say much about this myself, all of the stuff I've gotten over PostNord were letterbox-size parcels which got delivered fine.)
Place I used to live would occasionally get FedEx and never get UPS. I had to rent a mailbox to get them to deliver consistently. The company I rented the mailbox from was right next door to me, btw.
Quite incorrect! It forced you to personally confirm and link together your full name, address, phone number, residential IP address, and your mobile device’s various advertising ID numbers. This information is much more valuable to them than any postage you will ever pay.
“But GDPR, they can’t just…” lol, the enforcement agencies don’t touch these American conglomerates and they know it.
Here in Romania most of the local delivery companies (the big internationals usually hand off to a local affiliate once it's imported, so that covers your FedExes and the like) have drivers who you'll get to know by name and have their number in your phonebook - typically I'll get a quick "hi, I'll be there in 5 minutes if you're in?" courtesy call before delivery, and if you're not home but in a coffee shop round the corner or the like they'll happily divert to you or make another arrangement.
It's one of those weird areas (and I'm in no way claiming this across the board) where quality of life can actually be better in a poorer economy than a rich one - when labour is cheap enough that you can employ actual people to do actual jobs, you just get better stuff (like delivery drivers that know your name, or parks that actually have park keepers and litter pickers, and all those other little things that as a country gets richer become just too expensive.) I welcome that the country is getting wealthier obviously, but you can already feel some of that slipping away and there's a tinge of sadness.
Back on topic though - ugh, DHL though are the one I dread. Not that their local delivery guys aren't fine, they are, but my God the amount of paperwork they demand you complete before they'll actually release an international shipment for delivery is nuts. Very Germanic (bless them.)
