Privacy-focused mail providers (FOSS preferred)? (lemmy.world)

Hi all,

We're looking to get off Rackspace's email as the Spam filtering is pure garbage. We're going to avoid the Googles and MS's of the world, and I'm wondering if this community has suggestions for mail providers that run FOSS services (and are public about that via support), and/or are privacy focused. Note: Proton is a no-go due to having to run an IMAP middle-man service.

Posteo is also my choice. It's now not only my main E-Mail adress, but also my sync for calendar and adressbook. When i decided not to use Google any more several years ago i considered hosting my own server or use a service. I ended up with Posteo and so far never regret it. Paying 1€/month is a better deal for me than maintaining my own server, as they use their own server which are located in Germany and seem to be really trustworthy.

Another quite similar service in Germany would be mail.de

Never heard of them. But their website says "try ad-free". That implies that they display ads after the trial!? If that's the case, they can't be trusted.
