Linux is a family of open source Unix-like operating systems based on the Linux kernel, an operating system kernel first released on September 17, 1991 by Linus Torvalds. Linux is typically packaged in a Linux distribution (or distro for short).
Distributions include the Linux kernel and supporting system software and libraries, many of which are provided by the GNU Project. Many Linux distributions use the word "Linux" in their name, but the Free Software Foundation uses the name GNU/Linux to emphasize the importance of GNU software, causing some controversy.

My laptop is 192x54 in the virtual terminal and 190x47 in Gnome Terminal.
Whatever program you write definitely needs to support an 80 column display though. A 5" phone screen is going to need a much larger font than a 14" laptop screen.
Thanks. The ideal should be 140 chars. I will work out truncating the torrent name column in order for everything to fit in 80 char terminals, although it would not be very functional.
