I do that. It works. A kid showed me at a slumber party when I was a kid.
Taught my son this trick just this year! It really does work.
Leaving a hand out works too. At least for me it does.
A real shame that the boogeyman eats it.

It also works to cool you down. When you stick just your feet in a pool, it will cool down your whole body. It takes a bit, but it does help dissipate the heat
