Xcancel doesn't work again, I posted the whole tweet here so you don't have to open twitter.

the tweet only mentions Israel, but in reality all country names were removed like the Japanese raw, only the manga has the real names

United States changed to MAG Union

USSR changed to Volgarena, this name is directly inspired by the Volga River

Israel changed to Ghorantl (or Guranto), made-up word combining “Golan Heights” with “Toru” (to seize).

Syria changed to Mesamia, inspired by Mesopotamia

The mention of Israel in the Latin Spanish dub of The Ghost in the Shell (2026) has been removed...

A few days ago, a clip from the Latin Spanish dub went viral, where Israel was mentioned directly. Fans pointed out that this version was the only one that kept this reference present in the manga, while other versions, including the Japanese one, mentioned the fictional country Ghorantl.

However, after the clip went viral, the dub would have been modified. Now, instead of mentioning Israel directly, expressions like “they” and “other nations” are used.

What do you all think?

I was the one who posted the original post, there was a development a few days ago. Originally all but the latin dub had the made up names, but a few days ago around September 14, 2026 the latin dub was changed from the real names to the made up names. I suspect that the production company changed the dub without Amazon knowing, since it went viral Amazon noticed and changed the names.

It is strange for the dub to be changed after release

Not really? Dubs can change between the original airing and the physical release, for example when a VA is on vocal rest and they need a backup. Clifford Chapin voiced for the broadcast, as heard in this video, and Aaron Dismuke re-recorded his lines for the Blu Ray later.

In this instance, if I had to guess, the latin dubbers made a mistake and needed to redo those lines to match the rest of the international versions. Maybe they were using the manga as their source for some lines, but I doubt it was some principled stand.

I did more research it appears the latin dub producer Daniel Lacy asked the Japanese producers for permission to change it. I can't find the original tweet it appears to have been deleted, unfortunately these are the only sources I could find:

https://www.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=1083992854314015&id=100081099322156

I believe this is a reply to the original tweet and you can see the producer in the replays: https://x.com/SoyCzyha/status/2095691887579418644

So it does apear that Amazon deleted it and that the Dub producer changed it on purpose
