It has apparently taken Trump 80 years of being alive to figure out how spending money works. In his defense, he's probably not used to paying what he owes.
That's exactly it. He's not saying he doesn't understand basic commerce, he's saying he wants to steal the bananas instead of paying for them.
That's why Trump never pays his bills, he doesn't want to "lose" that money.
