A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

My mother was a drug counselor who refused to ever even attempt to quit cigarettes.
She died at 62. I spent three years of my life caring for her at her end as she begged for cigarettes.
Her death broke my Dad, and I still care for him as he lives life as a hermit, fifteen years later.
I don't have children of my own, or maybe one unofficially adopted one.
I am willing to make a number of sacrifices for the ones I love. This resolve has been tested but not yet broken.
But I am a stoner and a drinker, so have not escaped the same traps exactly.
I am more mindful of the choices I make, or at least that is what I tell myself. I keep a close community of those that I love and trust.
Stay away from tobacco. And probably alcohol as well. (And the hard drugs, coke/meth/opiates, of course.)
I have been obese my entire adult life. This year I have lost 30 lbs so far. But my despair has grown as I am also unemployed, so that weight loss has stalled. I can get back to it and will. This post was a good wakeup call.
Congratulations on the weight loss, I have also struggled with weight and am happy to say that I have lost about the same, and it feels a lot better. It is hard, but keep going until you are at a healthy weight!
Keep going. You have started addressing issues you see and you will find the habits to keep you healthy. I hope you find some employment or something that provides a steady income.
Thank you! I don't intend on stopping or giving up anytime soon. My pets would never forgive me. Nor my wife.
I keep getting interviews, so at least there is that, and my next one is Monday.
