Selective enforcement is how you get a society that throws the book at black dudes smoking weed and looks the other way on white college kids doing the same. As a general rule I think it's a terrible way to structure a legal system, and I find it hard to blame a DA for doing DA shit.

DAs are always in an awkward compromise where they are reliant on police but also in the position to oversee and discipline them. If you go too far one way, you'll be unable to hire cops and do your job. Is there any evidence Harris looked the other way on some big scandal?

And anyway, this is all a distraction from the choice between Harris and Trump being plainly fucking obvious. Did you make the right choice or fail to be an adult?

I actually kind of agree. If we had put Trump in prison for being a child rapist, or fraud, or any other number of things, we wouldn't be in this position today. But Biden wasn't interested in any of that.

...I find it hard to blame a DA for doing DA shit.

I disagree here. I think it's easy to blame them. They made their choice, and I can be critical of it.

Well, I'm not convinced that hiring crooked cops is better than not hiring cops. The not-so-big secret is that they are all working for the same team: The rich and powerful. They aren't going to go after the people they work for.

Is there any evidence Harris looked the other way on some big scandal?

Not that I know of. But there is evidence that she used her power to imprison people for bullshit "crimes", that she brushed off when asked if she did those same crimes.

And anyway, this is all a distraction from the choice between Harris and Trump being plainly fucking obvious. Did you make the right choice or fail to be an adult?

Yes, the plainly fucking obvious choice was neither. They are both openly and unashamedly monsters, so yes, I was an adult and voted against both of them.

The DOJ isn't supposed to be the president's personal hit squad. That's what Trump and tinpot dictators do. That said, the DOJ did go after Trump. He was indicted on the mishandling of classified information, election interference, and the Jan 6th case was the biggest case ever prosecuted by the FBI, and would have likely culminated in charges being filed against the ringleaders, including Trump. If only...

I [...] voted against both of them

If only you knew how your democracy works and wanted to participate in it. The only way to vote against Harris was to vote for Trump. The only way to vote against Trump was to vote for Harris. You chose neither. You may as well have stayed home. Thanks for this bullshit. It's really great, isn't it?

It sure seems to be when it's convenient for them. Biden had the power to go after Trump, and decided to slow-walk the entire process. That's literally what the Executive branch does. It didn't even have to be a "personal hit squad" kinda thing, the crimes were public. Biden just didn't care.

I do know how it works. It'd be nice if you read up on it. You see, our ballots have more than two options on who to vote for. You can even write in whoever you want! I was able to vote against both of them, because I read the ballot, and know how the process works.

You can justify your support for child-killing and genocide any way you want, but your party is the one that threw away an easy win, and let Trump back in, all because they cared more about supporting said genocide. Don't be mad at me for fighting against Trump and genocide, be mad at them for not fighting.

The slow walking happened because of the courts, or if you must blame the executive branch, because of Garland. The justice system is famously slow. You know what would have been faster? Not electing fascists.

That’s literally what the Executive branch does. It didn’t even have to be a “personal hit squad” kinda thing, the crimes were public. Biden just didn’t care.

The DOJ is an independent federal agency. Only in a failed state does a politician wield the legal system against political opponents. Oh hey look! We're sitting in the failed state you, yes you personally, voted for.

I do know how it works.

You don't. There are actually three options and exactly three options in every national election.

  1. Democrat

  2. Republican

  3. Not participating. Sitting at home? Not participating. Jill Stein? Not participating.

Nobody "learns a lesson" when you write in your mom for president. The message you're sending is, "progressives are too stupid to vote strategically, so by all means, try to appeal to more moderates." What we could do, if you weren't standing proudly in the way, is make the GOP irrelevant by consistently turning out for Democrats, then primary the Democrats from the left to split the party into its pro-business neoliberal wings and its pro-labor progressive wings. Unfortunately for us, and especially unfortunately for children in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, you want to feel good about voting more than you want to effect change.

Let me say this again: tens of thousands of children are dead because you wanted to feel smug about voting against both major parties. Good fucking job. A real hero. I bet they're erecting a statue to you in Gaza City right now out of the rubble you buried children under.

Oh, you mean Biden's guy? Weird, how Trump, and Obama were able to do whatever they wanted with the DOJ, but Biden? Well, he's just a smol bean, an widdle guy, who has no power.

You know what would have been faster? Not electing fascists.

Well, no, a working legal system would have been faster. Trump was elected after those proceedings were dragged out. Of course, the Democrats also helped take "not electing facsists" off the table years ago.

The DOJ is an independent federal agency. Only in a failed state does a politician wield the legal system against political opponents. Oh hey look! We’re sitting in the failed state you, yes you personally, voted for.

No the DOJ is supposed to be an independent federal agency. It never has been though. And once again, I didn't vote for this. I voted against it. You repeatedly saying untrue things doesn't make them true.

You don’t. There are actually three options and exactly three options in every national election.

I do. I have already factually pointed out how you are wrong about that. Come back when you've read up on it.

Nobody “learns a lesson” when you write in your mom for president.

Yes, you are correct. The Democrats know why I don't vote for them, they just don't care. They'd demonstrably rather have Trump in office, than what I want. I didn't vote against them to "teach them a lesson". I voted against them because they are evil.

The message you’re sending is, “progressives are too stupid to vote strategically, so by all means, try to appeal to more moderates.”

No, the message I'm sending is "I don't want to bomb kids, support genocide, make healthcare the largest cause of bankruptcy in the US, support the police-state, support rapists, support ICE, support openly corrupt politicians, and many of the other things that the Democrats and Republicans both stand for."

What we could do, if you weren’t standing proudly in the way, is make the GOP irrelevant by consistently turning out for Democrats, then primary the Democrats from the left to split the party into its pro-business neoliberal wings and its pro-labor progressive wings.

Well, no, we can't do that. The Democrats have already made it clear that they'd rather lose to the GOP than let progressives have a shot. But you'd have to actually pay attention to know that.

Unfortunately for us, and especially unfortunately for children in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran, you want to feel good about voting more than you want to effect change.

No, that what Democrats do. They "feel good" about voting for people who bomb kids, because they buy into the lie that Democrats will do better, despite all evidence to the contrary. I vote based on what I want to happen, not on what professional liars tell me that they will or won't do.

Let me say this again: tens of thousands of children are dead because you wanted to feel smug about voting against both major parties. Good fucking job. A real hero. I bet they’re erecting a statue to you in Gaza City right now out of the rubble you buried children under.

No Tens of thousands of children are dead because the Democrats cared more about Israel, and their rich friends, and the military. But of course, I won't expect you to understand that, as it would involve reading, paying attention, and introspection.

tldr.

I don't interact with people who are too self important to vote against ethnic cleansing and fascism. Enjoy your clear conscience as entire villages in Lebanon get wiped out. You know who would still be alive if you voted strategically to defeat fascism? Two hundred Iranian schoolgirls. Good job. I guess child rape wasn't even bad enough to suck it up and do your civic duty.

Yet, presumeably you interact with other liberals? Weird.

Enjoy your clear conscience as entire villages in Lebanon get wiped out. You know who would still be alive if you voted strategically to defeat fascism? Two hundred Iranian schoolgirls. Good job.

How would they be alive? Trump would have still won. I also like how you ignore the children that Biden and Obama killed. I guess kids don't count when it's the Blue Team dropping the bombs.

I guess child rape wasn’t even bad enough to suck it up and do your civic duty.

As explained multiple times, I did my civic duty and voted against the child rapist. But the Other-Rapist decided that child-rape wasn't worth putting Trump in prison.
