Naturally, one cannot presume the audience is neutral by upvotes/downvotes alone; for as I said, all these down-votes may very well just be sock-puppet accounts or biased Vatniks just the same. Silly one would ever presume up/down-vote ratio is some legitimate indication of persuasion in an unverifiable audience pool. "Cartoonish," as you say, really.
